The next update will feature every type of BT move or feature, for every character, in every game. As for how the heck I'm ordering the characters: I'm going to have to go with alphabetical order (with "Ling Xiaoyu" being near the end; when the game lists her name as "Ling" then I'll put her in the "L" section, dammit!!). This also means the character who started this section, Hwoarang, will no longer be first, but I'm hoping you're at least as smart as a monkey and know how to use the Find fuction. I had originally decided on some other order, since in the long run, new characters in new games would cause me to reorder the sections if done alphabetically... but in the long, LONG run, it would be easier alphabetically, since it -is-, after all, alphabetical. And that's that. Oh, and for the majority of you, this will be the first time you see this FAQ, as previous versions have not been posted on Zaibatsu. Those who really wanted to know asked around and eventually got a direct link from my site (and that's fine), or were told to check out JustFrame.com. I thought it was the ideal way, rewarding the dedicated and enthusiastic learner, but I decided to "publicly" release my FAQ (on Zaibatsu) because: 1) people just can't find the FAQ, 2) other people answer "Fox Step!?" titled threads, most often incorrectly, and 3) when answered by others, correctly or not, no credit is given to me - which could make it seem like that -other- person "invented" it or something! And that's bad, because as deftones14 had said, I am the "Fox Step Master." - Triple Lei (Fox Step Master, 10th Dan) P.S. I N T R O D U C T I O N ============================================================================== I'm just making this FAQ since everyone keeps asking me how to do it! :O MAJOR THANKS to KOFTEKKEN... Hwoarang's instant RFF cancel (via u/b~N) was known at this point, but no one else had apparently thought of doing it while BT! Of course from this point it is easy... just a quick dash (f,f) as soon as you switch into RFF and you dash! But that's just the beginning; there's plenty of crazy, cool, and otherwise pointless stuff you could do with it! Amaze your friends and make some new ones, and see if you could get away with it in a tourney...! If you're a Hwoarang player like me, you WILL use it whenever you can! (oh yeah, Lei and Xiaoyu have it too with b+3+4~f,f, but who cares) Before you read any further, let me stress these things: - BT = BK... although I had originally made "BT" the official "back torwards / back turned" notation standard (and with good reason; BK was first used in tragic's Tekken 3 manual), I decided to use BT because it's also used in Virtua Fighter and probably in Soul Calibur, too. There's no real need for multiple standards. - LFS = LFL... erg, this pisses me off. Admittedly, tragic's Tekken 3 Manual uses "LFL" (as do Catlord's Tekken move lists), but seriously... is "stance" not a word? And are we going to say "LFO" because "FO" = "Foot"? Pfft. And besides, Castel uses LFS! Take THAT, tragic! Cursed "Bob" originator! - When you are in a BT position, and the notations say "f,f", I mean two taps toward RELATIVE TO YOUR OPPONENT. This also applies for the u/f~N thing. - When you are in a BT position, and the notations say "LFF", I -mean- the LFF stance, even though your -right foot- is closer to your opponent! I say this because you can easily identify "LFF" and "RFF" if you pay attention to his arms. - Sometimes I may write "simplified" notations. This has to do with the 3+4 stance switch into Fox Step. If you see "simplified," it means you should already know what's buffered and where. - No, I did NOT come up with the term "Fox Step" (only "Reverse Fox Step"), and NO, the Fox Step has nothing to do with Steve! :annoy: *NEW: TEKKEN 4 NOTES* (mostly from my Zaibatsu post): BT u/b~N to cancel RFF into LFF no longer works. Kinda. Back in the TTT days, KOFTEKKEN said to hit u/b~N to cancel RFF into LFF. I've then realized it cancels because you're really supposed to be doing the huge U/B jump (thus putting you in LFF for a brief moment for that universal "jump" animation), but since you hit N rather quickly, you stay on the ground. Of course, U/F (and from there, u/f~N) would work too; same principle, but opposite directions... not that it would matter if you just went for the cancel. In T3 & TTT, you could do both u/b~N and u/f~N, both facing forward and while BT. Personally, I did u/b~N on 1P side and u/f~N on 2P side (though it still feels weird on 2P side). In T4, the back jump is removed, which means you can't do the u/b~N cancel while BT (it still works facing forward). So to do the Repeating Fox Step, you must hit u/f~N. Throughout the Hwoarang portion of the FAQ, I will use u/f~N for all games, even though u/b~N also works for T3 & TTT. This is for: - writing simplicity (for me) - easy backwards compatibility (for you) *UPDATE: u/b~N to cancel RFF into LFF actually does work, but you can't do anything for about half a second. It's also harder for some reason. And although you CAN cancel BT RFF into BT LFF, you CAN'T cancel the RFF dash into BT LFF! Point being, don't use u/b~N in Tekken 4 for Repeating Fox Steps! ============================================================================== 2. C H A R A C T E R S ============================================================================== Universal Stuff ------------------------------------------------------------ Before you read on, let me post the "universal" BT moves everyone can do, without buffering from the recovery of other moves, in an effort to reduce repetition: - Tekken 3: 1+2+3+4 reversals / mid parries taunts (3 buttons, if applicable) - Tekken Tag: 1+2+3+4 2+5 reversals / mid parries taunts (3 buttons, if applicable) - Tekken 4: reversals / mid parries taunts (3 buttons, if applicable) Rule of Thumb -------------------------------------------------------------- When it comes to BT moves, just remember these: - Moves with "down + two buttons" can sometimes be done without buffering. - d/b and d/f moves can usually be done without buffering, though everything must be PRECISE; the input must be one frame for everything! - qcf-style moves can usually be done by buffering from SOMETHING; jumpover punches (with left punch) can usually work. Buffering from hit stuns also work for some characters. f,f-style throws work from here as well. You can do d,D/B-style throws without buffering, but it is difficult. Actually, I'd imagine most / all command throws work with buffering. - You can remain in some stances BT via some jumpover. If your stance relies on forward (or backward) movement to remain in that stance, you might have to continue attacking or continue moving. - Just about anyone who has a reversal or parry can do them infinitely while BT by buffering from the previous one. I don't think Marduk can do this. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.1 Hwoarang (T3, TTT, T4) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Basics (Jinguu Method) ------------------------------------------------- - Buffering 4 (and only 4) in order to do a button buffered 3+4 stance switch is absolutely necessary because hitting 3+4 while BT while result in a BT launcher. This isn't from any degree of human error; even if a shoulder button was set to "3+4," a BT launcher will still come out if it's not from a buffer. Step 1: Hit 4 during the animation of 1+2 and hold it. - The u/f command is the RFF cancel we've all known since TTT, though it's been there since Tekken 3. While it's useful for combos normally impossible, u/f works from a BT RFF stance, and the simple 1+2 gets you in that position immediately. As for why u/f and u/b cancels RFF into LFF in the first place, it's because you're really cancelling a hop forward / back by not holding U/F or U/B. Everyone jumps the same, of course (i.e., Hwoarang doesn't have a "RFF jump" or "RFF sidestep"), so returning to neutral as quickly as possible is a must. u/f is the 'official' command for the RFF cancel, but for something like the Fox Step, returning to neutral is just as important, so I include it in my notations. Step 2: Cancel the BT RFF (from 1+2) with u/f~N or u/b~N. - At its core, the Fox Step is really just a stance switch into RFF, followed by a dash forward. It's still a dash forward even though your back is facing. Step 3: Now in BT LFF, hit the other kick button (3) for a button buffered 3+4 and immediately follow with a dash: 3+4~f,f. Fox Step Commands ---------------------------------------------------------- - The Jinguu Method This was first seen in the Hameko VS Jinguu series. Jinguu does some very hard-to-do crap very easily, such as RFF f+4~4, u/f~N, f+2, 2, u/f~N, f+2! Here's how he does the Fox Step: 1+2~3+4, u/f~N, 3+4~f,f \./ (buffer) Those are the exact commands, but not all of them will show. Hit 3+4 during the animation of the 1+2 and -hold them-. While holding 3+4, hit 3+4 the second time by releasing 3 and hitting it once again (4 is held throughout the whole thing). Trust me, you -need- to buffer this so there is no room for error, unless you want to do it the slow, stupid way and look like a wannabe (actually, it wouldn't work in the first place). As soon as you switch into RFF, hit f,f. What -does- show, however, is the 1+2, the RFF cancel, the stance switch, and finally, the Fox Step. - The Jung Gijae Method Jung Gijae just exudes style. His movements are unmatched, and he is actually damn good with him (as opposed to Jinguu, according to some). He did a Fox Step in a match once, and it is different (and easier to do) than Jinguu's: b+3+4~b, 1+2~3+4, 3+4~f,f \./ (buffer) You don't -need- to do the backdash, but if you're going to do the Fox Step, you would have wanted (and are probably going to need) distance anyway. Looking at the command, it seems harder to do, but it's easier if you don't want to risk hitting something other than u/f. The first part is simply a backdash combined with a stance switch, the stance switch being first (b+3+4~b). The second goes into BT with 1+2, but like the Jinguu Method, you'll have to buffer a 3+4. Then hit 3+4 again (you actually see 3+4 this time) and then dash forward. What you see: backdash & stance switch, 1+2, stance switch, Fox Step. For this reason, it is a tad slower than Jinguu's: With his method (done with perfection & as quickly as possible), you only see two movements (1+2 and Fox Step). The Gijae method, while more reliable, clearly has three (back- dash, 1+2, Fox Step). - Buffering There is actually an easier way to buffer, as Nathaniel Louie pointed out. This is his exact post: "3+4 1+2(buffer and hold 4 during the animation), 3, f,f here's the outline 3+4, 1+2~4(Hold), 3, f,f" - The Iliketekken Method Alright, this was sent to me by deftones14. Apparently there's an "easier" way to do multiple (repeating) Fox Steps. I tried it for a little while and had no success, but he loves this method. Well, whatever. "Iliketekken( a friend of mine), who is another Hwoarang user discovered a faster and easier way to do multiple F.Steps. 1+2(bf3)4~fff at this point you press 4 ~fff, the last f gets him into lff again somehow when done correctly." - The Slow, Stupid, Wannabe Method It is annoying and saddening to see this. The Slow, Stupid, Wannabe Method is the result of people who don't want to use the u/f~N RFF cancel. And even though Jung Gijae didn't use it, he was trying to move away, and this was done with the backdash-buffered stance switch facing forward. I shouldn't have to write down the method, but if you're going to Fox Step, make it either stylish, quick, or useful. Don't just throw it out simply because you think you can, or you'll look like an uncouth, boorish slob. That slovenly kind has no place in the Tekken elite! 1+2, 3+4, 3+4~f,f (simplified) Yuck. Fox Step Setups ------------------------------------------------------------ - From Combos f,f+4 enders look good, but you can make them look even better! Here are some examples: RFF f+4~4, f+3,1, f,f+4 BT u/f+4, d/f+1, f,f+4 (Baek) SS~cd+3~5 (ch), f+3+4, 3~4, f,f+4 (mad hard) - From Throws You can also do a Fox Step after his f,f+2 throw. (credit: Joshimitsu) Personally, I like following up the Fox Step with a BT U/F,N+3, which can get the other guy if they foolishly try to attack... hopefully it gets them in the back, too... heh heh... - From Moves You can also do a Fox Step after his RFF b+4 (ch). (credit: Playa Pimpmo) This move is fun. If blocked and off axis, you can do a Fox Step even though it may not look like it. If you're close and you hit with it (especially after SSR), you can certainly do it. (note: I'm not sure how often this will actually work, especially in Tekken 4...) More Fox Step Madness ------------------------------------------------------ - BT Launcher Baiting This isn't the easiest thing to do, since you're going to have to cancel the dash with a b~N. Hitting 3 will launch and you have the option of tagging out. Be warned, though, since all this takes time, and Fox Step 'cancel' doesn't really give you any space. Alternatively, you can use the u/f~N cancel and just hit 4. - Throw Turnarounds Cancel your Fox Steps with a throw! (credit: deftones14). In Tekken Tag, and especially in Tekken 4, you can have at least a theoretical mix-up with a throw, a BT launcher, or more Fox Step mania. - Fox "Dash" It's not entirely worth it, but you can do a little sprint instead of the quick "hop & stop" the Fox Step does. Just hold F for a bit longer after the stance switch (...3+4~f,F). Hold it long enough to start running, but stop before the computer says "hey, wtf" and turns you around. - Repeating Fox Steps Here's where the u/f~N cancel comes in. After you do the Fox Step, you're in RFF, and hopefully you've continued to buffer 3+4. You can either do this Jinguu style and hit u/f~N and 3+4~f,f again, or you can do it the Slow, Stupid way, hitting 3+4 twice. -_-; - Fox Step, Back Step This is very simple and is a set up for an even more impressive technique. [Fox Step]~B You can have fun with this in TTT: Fox Step, then Back Step, then tag out. Your opponent might mentally say "wtf..." and then "dammit!" The "dammit!" coming from the tag slide he just ate in his confusion... BT Moves ------------------------------------------------------------------- - BT moves Hwoarang can do: most RFF moves most LFF moves most standard moves d,D/B+1+3 f+2+3 - BT moves you can do without buffering from other moves are: d,D/B+1+3 - BT RFF Moves You can do a lot of RFF attacks while BT. There isn't really any hard setup; it's just a matter of doing the attack as quickly as possible as soon as you -switch into- BT RFF (except for LFF 1+2). Just be sure to buffer the 3+4s. To clear up any confusion, the commands are done as if you were facing forward. Any non-directional or one-directional RFF move can be done. Here are some examples: BT RFF, u/f~N, 3+4, 3~4 BT RFF, u/f~N, 3+4, f+4~4 BT RFF, u/f~N, 3+4, b+4 Remember: the timing is "immediately after the switch into RFF." - BT LFF Moves First, master the Fox Step, Back Step movement. Then notice something: you're in LFF! There's a very small period where you can enter normal LFF commands (as in, DONE IMMEDIATELY when in BT LFF) and have them come out like normal, only BT. This is is how the Hwoarang Tekken Dance (not to be confused with Crazy Legs) was done. Here are some examples: [Fox Step]~B, 3~4 [Fox Step]~B, 4,4,4,4 [Fox Step]~B, 1, 4 The first is a quick retreat from what the opponent probably believed was a free backthrow. The 2nd is the same thing, but it's a bit risker. The third is a jab in the air, followed by a (hopefully ch) BT LFF 4 launcher. You can do any LFF move that requires one direction or less. You -can- do his d+4,4 (and even start another Fox Step), but not his f,N,d,d/f+4 (more than one direction in the command). Hwoarang's new techniques in Tekken 4 allow him to stay in a BT Flamingo Frenzy pretty much forever. Three moves I haven't been able to do BT are his Tekken 4 moves: b+3 f+1+2 u/b+4 ...which is a shame, because BT u/b+4 would have looked SO TIGHT! Remember: the timing is "as soon as (or even a little before) the step into LFF." - BT LFF Moves (alternate version) The Reverse Fox Step, forward step works for BT LFF moves, but there is another way to do this from the b,b motion. From the switch into RFF: ...3+4~b,B You actually end up in LFF here, and this means you can do BT LFF moves. I actually didn't realize this until I was teaching WeaponX how to Fox Step, so thanks to him too, I guess. It should be noted, however, that LFF and standard moves that require a d, d/b, or d/b motion are much harder this way. Miscellaneous -------------------------------------------------------------- - Reverse Fox Step Instead of 3+4~f,f for a Fox Step, you can also hit b,b. This is highly discouraged for obvious reasons. - Reverse Fox Step, Forward Step If you ever do this, you're obviously just fooling around. It looks nice if you do LFF moves after this, since the Forward Step is already a retreat from the opponent, and any more LFF moves move you even further. Try [R. Fox Step]~F, f+3~3. Neato! - Double Fox Step All credit goes to SuperMxyz for this one. After the Reverse Fox Step, you're still in the BT-Facing Forward mode, so you can do a normal Fox Step after that. You can delay the 2nd Fox Step for quite a while, too. Here are the simplified notations by SuperMxyz: BT LFF, 3+4~b,b~f,f Again, a big thanks to SuperMxyz. I would have -never- thought of it. :) ---EDIT--- While looking at my movie archives, it seems BMW showed this first in his "bobdash2.mpg" movie. But SuperMxyz deserves the credit anyway, since he plays Hwoarang. ^ ^ (and anyone who calls Hwoarang "Bob" earns my immediate contempt, so...) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.2 Xiaoyu (T3, TTT, T4) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fox Step Commands ---------------------------------------------------------- - b+3+4, f,f Supposedly you only have one frame to move from b+3+4 to f,f, and only one frame between f and f (f,f). jjt posted a LONG time ago on the Electric Cancel boards about how it wasn't hard at all, and that the timing wasn't to the frame. PERSONALLY (and this really irks me), I've never ever EVER been able to do Xiaoyu's. Of course, I don't really use her, and I give up easily. Heck, it took me at least three years to nail Bryan's WS+3 (ch), iWS+2,b+2 ONCE... and that was on a big character, if it mattered. And it probably did. Gyah. And I am absolutely sure that it is still in Tekken 4. The CPU actually did it once, but I wasn't smart enough to capture the fight to the memory card so I could capture it. But you all believe me, right?? DiGiTaLee's Page ----------------------------------------------------------- You can download the movie here: http://dtl.tcp-ip.cc/ Movie Page > Enter JAPANESE side > xiao-foxstep.mpg > xiao-foxstep1.mpg (look for "FOX" on left-most column) Here is a Babel Fish translation of his directions. Keep in mind that I replaced the untranslatable Japanese characters with "[]". Also be mindful of the Japanese / Korean notations: u/b u u/f 7 8 9 b N f = 4 N 6 (this is the same as the number pad on your d/b d d/f 1 2 3 keyboard, not phone) [begin translation] The explanation whose FOX step is detailed Method $$ln2 For back (4 K) in 6N6N. Her high-mid parry can be done BT, and infinitely, by cancelling and buffering BT taunts: (b+3+4) 1+4 (buffer and hold 3+4), 1+3+4~f+1+4, 1+3+4~f+1+4... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.3 Lei (T3, TTT, T4) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fox Step Commands ---------------------------------------------------------- - b+3+4, f,f - B+3+4, f,f Like Xiaoyu's, it's (supposedly) a one frame thing. This Fox Step (maybe Xiaoyu's, too) was discovered by Kenbou, some Japanese guy. No, I've never done this one either, but I don't play Lei. (really!) The second Fox Step command listed is for a delayed Fox Step after the turnaround. For download directions and Fox Step translations, see "DiGiTaLee's Page" in Xiaoyu's section. The two Lei Fox Step movies: lei-foxstep1.mpg lei-foxstep2.mpg ...are right under Xiaoyu's. I haven't seen Lei's Fox Step in Tekken 4, but if Xiaoyu's is in there, then I don't see why not. Reverse Fox Step ----------------------------------------------------------- - Lei has a Reverse Fox Step. It looks like Xiaoyu's regular dash forward in Rain Dance. I'm not sure of the command (I've never tried it), but both Evaspeed and some guy in the TZ TTT General forum said they did it. BT Strings ---------------------------------------------------------------- - Lei can stay BT with the Razor Rush strings. The best ways are: u/f+4 PLD 3+4 Then it's just shifting with u and d: f,N+1,2,1,2~U, TGR 1,2,1,2.. f,N+1,2,1,2~D, TGR 1~U, SNA 1,1,1,1,1,1~F, SNA 1,1,1,1,1,1... Spinning ------------------------------------------------------------------ - This is a technique in Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag. When you are in BT Razor Rush strings, and you shift into an animal stance, and don't press anything, you face forward, still in the animal stance. If you attack (and continue pressing buttons) while you turn around, you will "cancel" the turnaround, spinning for about 3 seconds. It's not the easiest thing to explain, and you will definitely need to see what works best for you. I discovered how to do this by myself. *^_^* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.4 Jin (T3, TTT) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BT Moves ------------------------------------------------------------------- - BT moves Jin can do, starting with u/f+2+4: b+2+4 1+4... T3 / TTT d+3+4 u+2+4 T3 / TTT b,f+2... 1,3,2,1,4 T4 see below u/f+1+2 (T4) T4 - BT moves you can do without buffering from other moves are: 1+4... T3 / TTT u+2+4 T3 / TTT d+3+4 u/f+1+2 (T4) T4 The other moves require you buffer them during the last frames of other BT moves. This means that once you do 1+4, you can continue to do as many b,f+2,1,2s as you like (which is the most practical use). Uses ----------------------------------------------------------------------- - 1+4 is a great move to quickly get that extra bit of space. If you're lucky, you can try escaping follow-ups to the Waning Moon. It's also easier to do, since you can be standing still and still be able to do it, unlike b+2+4 and b,f+2,1,2, which have to be done immediately after BT, buffered from other moves. - In the unlikely event that your back is facing your opponent -and- there's enough room for a shoulder ram, you can do u/b+2+4, which will move you forward like u/f+2+4, possibly giving you enough time for a retaliation. Tekken 4 Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- - Jin's movelist is almost entirely changed, but he still has the following BT techniques: d+3+4 b,f+2... b+2+4 (different timing) - Jin can do his 1,3,2,1,4 string with this weird buffer: 1+2+3,1,4 You don't even need to buffer it from other moves! - Jin's taunt: 1+3+4 ...can be done BT, like all other taunts. Jin's is special, in that it cannot be cancelled by moving; this allows for easy buffering from a jump- over, and from there, b,f+2,1,2s or whatever else he has! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.5 Law (T3, TTT, T4) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BT Moves ------------------------------------------------------------------- - BT moves Law can do, starting with d/b+2: b+(1+3_2+4) d+3+4,D d/b+1+2... T3 / TTT FC,u+4,3 T4 FC,u+3+4 T4 qcf+1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- - This move deserves a section of its own. It is used as a catalyst, linking "out of nowhere" moves to the other BT moves, and from there, linking all BT moves to all other BT moves. Since it's hard to write a "formula," I'll just put a few examples: d/b+2, qcf+1, 4,u+3, qcf+1... d/b+2, d/b+1+2,u,u, qcf+1, qcf+1, qcf+1... d/b+2,4, qcf+1,4, qcf+1, 4... d/b+2, 1+2+3+4~1,3, qcf+1,1,1,1,2,f+2,2... d/b+2, qcf+1,2, qcf+1,2, qcf+1, 4,3,4... Why does this work? qcf+1 is actually a real move (knocks down on ch). In addition, qcf+1,4 is actually a real string (try it yourself sometime). I will continue to write "qcf+1, 4,u+3" and such style strings because it is far easier to read. Know, however, that the timing is that of a qcf+1,4 string. Buffering the qcf motion is extremely important. As you can imagine, this does require a fair amount of practice. * Very special thanks goes to drumdude; this entire section wouldn't exist if it weren't for his old, old "Law Craziness for Synner!" vid at Tekken Salute. Check out his new (though fairly empty) site at: http://salute.tekken.net BT Flipkicks --------------------------------------------------------------- - In Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag, Law can do his FC,u+4 flipkick while BT with this unnecessarilly difficult command: BT FC,u~N~u+4 The part going from N to u must be done in one frame. When buffered with a tag, the kick launches higher (high enough to follow up with another BT flipkick), but there is no tag. * Very special thanks to abrar rana for going on yoko's (Japanese) BBS and asking. Visit his site, Inside Tekken, at: http://tekken.0catch.com Tekken 4 Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- - Law can no longer do the BT Fake Somersault (TTT: FC,u). You can do it from qcf+1 strings, though. - Law can do his flipkicks (all styles) normally while BT. The interesting part is that while doing BT FC,u+4 (and BT FC,U+4 of course) goes straight up, both u/b and u/f go toward the opponent! BT d/b+1+2 ----------------------------------------------------------------- - This is a strange one. Although you already know that it can in fact be done with a buffer or directly from the d/b+2, I've been able to do this while standing absolutely still and BT. Although I once passed this off as a fluke, it definitely IS possible, but it is EXTREMELY hard. You'll need to press d/b+1+2 at the EXACT same time (1 frame for everything), hitting the diagonal VERY precisely! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.6 Yoshimitsu (T3, TTT, T4) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BT Moves ------------------------------------------------------------------- - BT moves Yoshimitsu can do, starting with various starters: b+3+4... d+1+4... d+3+4... d/b+2... qcf+1 b,b+1 see below f,f+1+2... f,f+3+4... u/f+1+2 d/b+1+2 (T3) T3 / TTT 1+2+3 (T4) T4 b+1+4 see below 1+2... T4 d+1+4... 1+2+3 (T4) T4 d/b+1+2 (T4) T4 Buffering ------------------------------------------------------------------ - Yoshimitsu is a complicated character, and the same goes for his BT stuff. Like other characters, some of his moves can only be done buffered from another move. But it seems that certain moves can only be done from certain BT starters. Some are harder than others because you might have a smaller buffer period. - qcf+1: This can be done from - f,f+2 (ch) f,f+1+2 b+3+4 f,f+3+4 f,f+3+4,1+2 f,f+3+4,1+2,3+4 d+3+4,4 d+3+4,u u/f+1+2 f,f+1+4 2+5 (TTT) d/b+1+2 (T3 / TTT) 1+2+3 (T4) (f,f+1+2),u+2+3 (f,f+1+2),u+2+3 (f,f+1+2),u+2+3,b,b qcf+1 - b+3+4: This can only be done from: f,f+1+2 - f,f+1+2 and f,f+3+4: These can only be done from: f,f+1+2, b+3+4 These are the hardest BT attack strings to do in the game! In fact, I wasn't even sure of the commands until I found BMW's "BT Shits" document. As hard as that thing is to read, I was correct about the notations; it was still f,f, and not some weird-ass command (mentioned later). But the timing isn't as "easy" as Hwoarang's or Law's or any others'. I put in Tekken Tag for the better Hit Analysis and found something weird: b+3+4~f,f Here's the thing... not only are you "frozen" for less than half a second, you flash red! Certainly this is something to be explored. I'm not exactly sure how you can use this to your advantage as far as timing goes; I THINK you time it so you hit 1+2 (or 3+4) right before (i.e. 1 frame?) the red -would- flash. - u/f+1+2: This can only be done from: (f,f+1+2), b+3+4, f,f+3+4,1+2,3+4 Indian Sit 3,3+4 You'd think you'd be able to do u/f+3+4 as well, but you can't. Unless, of course, you can. Uh, nevermind. Just skip to the next section. - d+3+4: This can only be done from: f,f+1+2 In Tekken 4, you don't need to buffer it at all. Buffering (Part II) -------------------------------------------------------- - b,b+1: This can only be done from: f,f+1+2 Except, for reasons unknown, it is done with this command: u+2+3 I have NO idea how or why this works, but it does. Perform it like it was a string from f,f+1+2. It's the same timing as buffering b+3+4. And Button Buffering IS A MUST. - 1+4 (TEKKEN 4 ONLY): This can only be done from: f,f+1+2 u+1+4 Except it's done with: u+1+4 It's difficult explaining the timing here because 1+4 is a canned followup. More interesting, however, is that you can continue BT 1+4s this way. You can even use this to do stolen moves BT! I discovered how to do this by myself. *^_^* Tekken 4 Notes ------------------------------------------------------------- - These moves do not have to be buffered in order to remain BT: d+3+4 u+1+2 (1+2) Actually, BT 1+2 is a new property. You were previously unable to do this. - Yoshimitsu can do BT strings and attacks that do not require a direction (like 3,4). The one exception is d+1, which you can also do with the old d/b+1 command for some reason. This is done with: 3+4~B, 3+4~B The computer thinks you cancelled the turnaround, and you did, but it was done early enough, and it was cancelled with another turnaround! (think: 90 + 90 = 180) The timing isn't easy to explain, but if you downloaded SD TeKKeN's "YoshiYoshi!" the cancel timing should be clear. I discovered how to do this by myself. *^_^* A Copied Post -------------------------------------------------------------- - This was a post copied from some time ago, by some guy: [start] f,f+1+2(hold 2)+u+3~b~b from the previous string,qcb+1(somersaul), or u/b+1+2(helicopter thingie), or u/b+3+4,f+1,4(flip into spin into backflip), or u+1+2 or d+3+4, or d/f+2,2,2,2 or f+1+2~any. That's all of them I guess. [end] Several things to comment on. First, he does not use my (now universally accepted, thank you very much) notations of "f = forward RELATIVE TO YOUR OPPONENT." Second, he mentions other BT moves such as b+1+2 and u/f+3+4. Either it's some new buffering or timing I'm not aware of, or it's totally false. I'd prefer the former... * Very special thanks to BMW, who discovered / verified at least half of the entire Yoshimitsu section. Visit his site, Tekken Stuff, at: http://www.tekkenstuff.com His BT document (though not THAT clear :P ) can be found at: http://www.tekkenstuff.com/documents/btshits.txt I don't feel bad about linking directly to his FAQ (GameFAQs says I should, and that's quite understandable). First of all, I wasn't even really looking for a comprehensive document, let alone as a .txt file. I had found this on the BBS, and only on the BBS (it wasn't anywhere on the site's download page for some reason). But before I had to do that, I had to select "View All Topics," because there hasn't been a topic since sometime last year! And by some miracle, I found the thread and the .txt file linked. I'm doing EVERYONE a service here, folks! * Also, very special thanks to Vainj and practically the whole Eurotekken crew; those Euros seem to know all sorts of crazy stuff, like all that Jack crap in TTT, oy. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 2.7 King (T3, TTT, T4) ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- BT Moves ------------------------------------------------------------------- - BT moves King do, starting with various starters: b+2+4 b+1+2 T3 / TTT d/b+2+4 d/f+2+4 d/f,d/f+2+4 qcf+1 f,hcf+1 f,N,d,d/f T3 / TTT see below d+1+2 T3 / TTT see below - BT moves you can do without buffering from other moves are: d/b+2+4 d/f+2+4 ============================================================================== 3. It showcased Hwoarang's many movements and BT attacks, which weren't really shown before. It also showcased -my- manual dexterity. ;) Format: DivX Run Time: 57 secs File Size: 9.57 MB BGM: Blümchen - Willkommen in Meinem Garten Sequence 1 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Crazy Legs, Wall Jump (f,f+4) The Crazy Legs is just any sequence consisting of SS, f+3+4,f, and b+3+4,b. In TTT, you'd have to actually cancel the crouchdash with f, which wasn't exactly easy if you'd want to do it fast. Now the command is: f,N,d,d/f, u, repeat Also worth noting in Tekken 4 is that the sidestep cancel only works by sidestepping up - either side. If you'd want to snakedash to your left on the right side, you'd still have to use that old f cancel. I was actually surprised that recording the 1P command and placing that character on the 2P side would even work! Chalk this one up to the many (many!) Tekken anomalies. Sequence 7 ----------------------------------------------------------------- LFS 3+4, 3+4, 3+4, 3+4... Sorry that this wasn't -totally- synchronized. I honestly have no idea why it wasn't; timing isn't -that- strict! Sequence 8 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Repeating Fox Steps into Shadow Step The "chasing" opponent cannot do the u/f~N cancel in Tekken 4, so it was replaced with a SS which works pretty much the same. The Shadow Step (thankfully NOT removed from the Japanese PS2 version) is done with: BT FC,d/b~d~d/b... Sequence 9 ----------------------------------------------------------------- F+3+4~4~4 This was first seen in Tekken Central's Hwoarang Vol. 1. Virtua Fighter 3 has something like this with the classic "Akira Dance" video. Sequence 10 ---------------------------------------------------------------- [Fox Step]~B, d/b+3+4~b,b, 3,3,4, 1,2,3,4,4~f, 3, 1+4~b,b This, of course, is the Tekken Dance sequence (sans RFF 3~4). ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 3.3 SD TeKKeN: YoshiYoshi! (Yoshimitsu) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the Yoshimitsu Tribute: Ok, I kinda rushed this movie out. I was just so excited about discovering the new Tekken 4 BT properties first shown in that one Paper Fist match movie (namely, 1+4 and non-directional moves and strings). But not only do I -not- play Yoshimitsu, I didn't even know his full Tekken 4 movelist! I wasn't even aware how to begin the Yoshimitsu Tekken Dance (the commands just never worked for me and I tend to give up easily)... I knew I had to correct this by including the previously unseen BT strings in a later, all-encompassing movie. So yeah, the movie could have been better, but I'm still happy with the final result. Format: DivX Run Time: 53 secs File Size: 8.99 MB BGM: Blümchen - Herz an Herz (Herzattackenhaus Mix) Blossom - Heart to Heart (Hearthousemix) Sequence 1 ----------------------------------------------------------------- Indian Sit, D... Sequence 2 ----------------------------------------------------------------- 3+4~B, 3+4~B, 3+4~B, 3+4 I'm convinced this could have continued indefinitely, but strict timing is required. Just experiment with the timing and see what works for you. Sequence 3 ----------------------------------------------------------------- u+1+4, u+1+4, u+1+4, u+1+4, u+1+4... This can be buffered with f,f+1+2 or the new 3+4~B, 3+4~B property. Now that I think about it, this could have been done without any BT / Fox Step knowledge at all (you could just sidewalk around it and start your own), but as I mentioned in the Yoshimitsu section, you can (or must?) do it with the old d/b+1 method if buffered and such. Sequence 10 ---------------------------------------------------------------- Indian Sit, SSL... You're not really doing "SSL"; P1 Yoshi is holding up, and P2 Yoshi is holding down. The result is a spiny Arena camera thingy, and hilarity ensues. Sequence 11 ---------------------------------------------------------------- f,f+1+2, b+3+4, d/b+1+2, d/b+2, 1+2, d, d+3+4, b OBVIOUSLY, this sequence could have been expanded, but I got lazy. I also wanted to throw in some BT f,f+1+2 stuff, but I didn't find BMW's "BT Shits" document, which confirmed the commands I had tried (but failed to execute) until AFTER the Laws movie, next. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- :: 3.4 SD TeKKeN: The Laws (Law) :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the Law Tribute: You know what? I almost didn't make this movie, and it turns out to be one of my favorites! I was pretty much convinced that the qcf+1 stuff was played out as early as Tekken 3, but I remembered Law's new moves. And -then- I remembered that DSS and DFS stuff... obviously I don't really play Law either! I tried b,f, f+3 and it works even better. I don't really know how or why this works, but it does! Sequence 3 ----------------------------------------------------------------- qcf+1,2, qcf+1,2, qcf+1,1,1,1,2,f+2,2 When I was controlling the 1P Law, I originally did just 1,2, thinking that the qcf+1 command was unnecessary. When I looked at the vid, the timing was off by just a little bit, and I couldn't get rid of it. I eventually realized that qcf+1 has the ability to come out just a bit faster. Frame data-wise, it's the same (I think), but the regular 1 can't attack that quickly after the recovery of some other moves. Sequence 4 ----------------------------------------------------------------- qcf+1,2,3, qcf+1,2,3, qcf+1,2,u/f+3,4 Sequence 5 ----------------------------------------------------------------- d/b+1+2,1,3, d/b+1+2 I just wish I had done this in the Mall stage... then every stage would have been in the movie! I was even trying to redo the entire movie just for that, but... eh... Sequence 6 ----------------------------------------------------------------- d/b+2,4 OMGLOLOL... who knew that if two Laws did it at the same time, they would end up in -that- position? Sequence 7 ----------------------------------------------------------------- BT 1 I was surprised this even worked... Sequence 8 ----------------------------------------------------------------- b,b,u/b This was annoyingly hard; setting up the CPU to do it at the same time was almost impossible! They didn't hit the wall at the same time so I had to cut the clip short. I originally wanted them to do it in between those two pillars, but... I'm only one man! Sequence 9 ----------------------------------------------------------------- FC,U/F+4, FC,U/F+4, FC,U/F+4, FC,U/F+4... I kinda lucked out on this one. I recorded the white costume Law without any idea how long it took for the Law I would take control of to start his own flip kick and land, or if the whole thing would be evenly timed, but it was! Sequence 10 ---------------------------------------------------------------- qcf+1, 4,3,4~b,f, 1, f+1 This is probably my favorite sequence, but it was extremely hard to do! Matching the timing of a delayed DFS 1, f+1 was just too hard, but it was worth it. I could have settled for something else, but luckily I didn't! Sequence 11 ---------------------------------------------------------------- d/b+2, b+2+4, B (turn around), b+2+4, b+1+2, 3 I actually wanted to do a Tricky Fake Step f+1, but it didn't reach. Sequence 12 ---------------------------------------------------------------- FC,u+4, FC,U+4, FC,u/b+4,3 Good thing those flip kicks recover crouching, eh? Sequence 13 ---------------------------------------------------------------- d/b+2,4, d+3+4, FC,U/F+3+4 Actually, you can have them do the Frog Man just a bit closer; their feet will whiff ever so slightly. Sequence 14 ---------------------------------------------------------------- d/b+2, qcf+1,2,u/f+3, FC,U+4, FC,U/F+3+4 Just a fun sequence of the many flip kicks, made possible by the recover crouching properties. This movie is supposed to be the "final" BT movie, showing everyone in some way. It took three days to make (I was procrastinating something so I decided to make a movie), and the most amazing part is that the music worked with the video so well, and almost all by itself! I also discovered Yoshi's BT copied move thing (f,f+1+2, u+1+4) here. I haven't really dived into this, but I do know that one move he -can't- perform BT is Heihachi's b,b,N+3+4. Shame, too... Rantings ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- - I dunno about you guys, but Dean Earwicker just sounds like a top-tier character...! (<- written before name change to Steve... uh, lol...) - People abbreviate Tekken Tag Tournament "TTT" (as they should), but the same people abbreviate Tekken 4 "TK4?" Gee, that makes a HELL of a lot of sense! - No more vids for ANYONE! As I said before, "If I do decide to, it'll be a long time for MY convenience... I'm sure I mentioned somewhere (like on my site) that whenever I'm asked to upload a whole SET of something, I tend to care a lot less (i.e., not at all). Finding it in the CD (out of 40+), uploading them, linking them, verifying the links, and rotating and repeating is a LOT harder for me than it is for you to simply download them." (...but being a TZ Supporter might help...) * Right now I am actually unable to do this anyway. - Addendum to Rant #2: http://tekken.underactive.net/editorials-rant002.html Why are people still calling Hwoarang "Bob?" I mean, with Tekken 4, you have forum newbies (god bless'em...) calling Hwoarang "Bob" at every chance, if only to prove that they, too, know he's called "Bob!" I say, "Good for you. Now stop being a lamer and call him by his actual name." It -is- pretty much all tragic's fault, not like he plays Tekken anymore. I certainly respect him, and I can say that he's a better player, but come on. For the half second it took him to give Hwoarang the QUITE ridiculous moniker "Bob," and the one IRC session to spread it, he was an idiot. And you know what happens when we have idiots in power? Wars are one thing; shitty, inappropriate, completely out-of-place nicknames are another. I'm not against nicknames, it's just that "Bob," a name which can't be derived anywhich way from "Hwoarang," has its clout because other morons use it. And from them, more "Bob" morons are spawned... sad, indeed. If you honestly don't mind seeing and answering newbie threads asking "Who the hell is Bob?", that's just great for you. Personally, I have better ways to spend the time I wish I had. Sporadic usage is okay I suppose, but all that's left is for people to take it out of control. I hope we don't see any of these: Bobby Bobbo Mr. Bob Billy Bob Bubba Bo Bob ...and pretty much any other name. Until "Bob" is put in a abbreviations legend of some sort (thus spelling certain doom for mankind), I'll be adamantly opposed. ============================================================================== 5. L I N K S ============================================================================== - http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com Your #1 Tekken resource on the net! Great selection of movies and the most popular Tekken forum. As Tekken.Net, it started my fascination with BT attacks and strings with the Tekken Dance Video (not up anymore). - http://www.electriccancel.com Fantastic tournament footage, nice layout, and a really popular forum with the cutest smilies... aw... :) KOFTEKKEN, the one who showed the U.S. how to Fox Step, posts there (especially after tourneys). - http://www.tekkencentral.com THIS. The movies are GREAT - Recently a Hwoarang combo movie by the TC Hwoarang movie came out, and it's easily the biggest thing to happen to Hwoarang since the Jinguu TTT movie. Also, here's the post by my mentor KOFTEKKEN: http://tekkencentral.com/eng/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=937 Welp, those are the big 3. There are tons of other great sites, but they probably aren't -too- Fox Step related. :P Here's my end-all, be-all post with movies and such: http://www.tekkenzaibatsu.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=524010#post 524010 Don't forget to copy that "524010" at the end of the first line! Here are some other sites: - http://tekken.underactive.net (my site) I considered this site one of my main hobbies (and I need a new one...) - I felt I had to share, though pics and descriptions, the classic / ground- breaking movies in the history of the post-Slikatel Tekken community. It is extremely hard work putting up site and movie descriptions, taking pics of movies and then writing about them some more, so the site is on hiatus right now. As you may have guessed, I'm devoting my time to this FAQ. * Actually, at this time of writing, the whole server is down... - http://www.cdycus.com/~sdtekken SD TeKKeN, hosted by my bud CodEZ. Info about the fastest growing Tekken community and much more! - http://www.clubrichandcreamy.com/sdtekken The movie page for SD TeKKeN, and where my movies have been hosted.
