Pretty old thread, but let's get back to the point. I loved Tekken 2. It was the first game I ever played on Playstation. I loved the music, the backgrounds, the characters, the FMV's, everything! It is definitely something nostalgic that should be wept upon. :'( I'm feeling a bit Tekken-sick.
Tekken 2 was a fantasting game. The music is the best in all the games and the storyline pwns. I loved this game because it was so planned and laid out so well. I especially like the sub-boss system as it's reliable. It also had the best characters; this is pretty much also why I disliked Tekken 3 a bit. My favorite characters in this were Lee and Devil. My favorite music was Jack-2, Jun, Middle Boss (Quiet Interim Report) and Devil, I prefered the arranged versions. If it was in 3-D with A.I backgrounds this game would totally own. Heihachi being the big boss before then becoming playable with Kazuya being the boss was prety ironic and contrasts with all the other Tekken titles.
The whole concept of Tekken 2 was like the foundation or building block to the whole of Tekken; you all owe your TZ userships to this fantasting game. Every game suceeding or sequeling it was all because of Tekken 2 that it was made possible. The 1st in a series is usually just that, the first one; however it's always the 2nd in the series that depends on the total sucess of the whole series forever in the future, this is the critical moment where all stakes are tossed in and Tekke n2 has handled that quite well; the 3rd in the series is usually entirely different from the first two. I miss Tekken 2, it was truely awesome.

Couldn't agree more my friend. And isn't it weird seein how young the cast was in T2 as opposed to what they look like now?

Yeah totally. I mean opposed to Tekken 3 even. Seeing Heihachi's hair greying and Paul's beard growing 'middle age' style was just too surreal; I almost thought "No wait thats it, Tekkens fucked" but I was wrong, Character's showing signs of aging was a good idea to follow on from Tekken 2. However Tekken 2 was still incredible Ah thats it, another reason why Tekken 2 is great; the *young* look of all the characters! Of course... (except Nina and Anna the 'I got frozen because I have a sexy ass' sister). Opposed to Tekken 5 then the age/look has gone over the charts, in a good way.

Yeah. It's just weird seein Paul clean shaved and wearin earrings.
one thing is miss is that nobody has their own stage anymore or their own musci. lei had the skyscraper, king had the gothic church, yoshi had that huge forest, devil had that surreal infinite place. now u just fight in some random place, it has no attachment to the characters. i hope they bring this back in t6.
in the next tekken tag they should have the old and young versions of the veteran characters.

This was another reason why i thought Tekken 2 (and Tekken 3 too) were so great and why Tekken 1 was so crap that I failed to mention; thank you for jogging my memory NYG 5.
Paul - New York City (Manhattan)
Jun - Morning Fields
Lei - Hong Kong Rooftop
Michelle - Arizona Desert
Yoshimitsu - Serene Forest I
Nina - Greece Ruins
Marshall - Great Wall, China
Jack2 - Factory Plant in Akibahara
King - Church Sanctuary
Heihachi - Pagoda Temple
(all the Tekken 1 stages for sub-bosses except 'Venezia')
Baek - Korean Temple Shrine
Kazuya - Eternal Darkness
Devil / Angel - Mirror Darkness
Roger - Fiji
Alex - Beach
They *should* pull a Mortal Kombat Trilogy and allow rotation of the character select portraits in order to achieve custom character yes; great idea NYG 5. MK did this with Rayden, Kung Lao, Jax and Kano in 'their' trilogy then why shouldn't Tekken? I was suprised whis wasn't in TTT.

BINGO. I couldn't agree with you more. I said this in another thread; that I remembered when the places corresponded with the characters. It would've been cool if Tekken 2 had an art gallery--like Marvel VS Capcom--but you could only access the T2 gallery from a T3 disc; when you go in Theatre Mode (In T3), select disc, then put T2 in (the same concept of Namco's theatre mode for T2 in T3 theatre mode, just with an additional "Art Gallery".) It could've shown all the characters in rendered form and their places from a side and bird's eye point of view. I really like Kuma's, Lei's, Lee's, Anna's, and Kazuya's backgrounds the most (in bird's eye view; otherwise I love all of the characters' backgrounds.) Lol, I tried taking a picture of Kazuya's background in a bird's eye view. I was Nina and I was doing her QCF+3+4 or Crab Hold combo to Kazuya just to get a shot of Kazuya's wonderful rose-carpeting.
Tekken 2 was the first playstation game I played and the first game of that then-new era (I had only NES until 1996). One of my friends showed me the Playstation, videogame magazines and the first game he let me try out was Tekken 2.
After getting my own, I bought Tekken 1 for $10 just to have it, since I still couldnt afford 2 (it was still brand new). It wasnt the greatest, but it was still fun.
A few years ago I got lucky and got a used copy for Tekken 2 for $10 and now while I wait for money to buy my own copy of Tekken 5 (i've only rented it a few times and my friend owns a copy, so I play it when i'm over there), I play it.
Tekken has always been a staple favorite of mine, even if I used to be abysmally bad at it. It's just a great series with great roots. Tekken Tag 1 and Tekken 4 kind of turned me away from it, but 5 has more than made up for that.
I want Tekken 3, but I cant find a copy anywhere except online. I've rented it when it came out, but i'd like to own it to complete the chain.
My only complaint with T2 is that in general, moves are quite strong. Matches can be finished by just a few simple moves getting pulled off and matches are generally shorter. Tekken 5 things are more toned down and even (not counting some odd extremities). Tekken 2 is still a great classic fighting game, and i'd much rather play it than my copy of MK Trilogy.
Also, Tekken 5 (and even 3) has more fighting styles, which makes things more fun and interesting. 2 has less, but still, it's understandable.
As a side note, I think it would be pretty cool if they made a Tekken Tag 2 with all the characters and Tekken 5's nifty gameplay engine and balance and characters and also offered the different 'eras' of a character as Customizable Costumes. I.E. buying Yoshimitsu's Tekken 1 plate armor look for 500,000G.
