Good job, argo, this will help lots of people, meself included...
id like to add that if you have Windows XP it comes with Windows Movie Maker, which is a very basic but still useful and easy tu use video capture/editing tool.
Mods.... make this shit a sticky. We don't need 900 more of these topics, he just answered almost everything and made links to anything he didn't answer.
Well anyone that has questions that I don't answer here fell free to ask and someone will answer them... Just as you can see by my links there's too many threads about this, and they just get lost in the other threads, that is why people always make new ones. I was also thinking of posting this in the Movie Forum as well (but I'm unsure if I can edit the post after the fact, so that I can update the FAQ). Anyhow.. more will come tonight when I'm not at work
I hope thats one of them, because I think that was the toughest part of making videos, goofing around w/ the settings.. I know intel made an FAQ for that
sorry just have to bump this from the 2nd page because there are 2 stupid threads on the first page.. on telling them to post in the web media forum about this type of topic...
QuoteOriginally posted by Nine Did you also make a .txt for the FAQS?
Will be in a few more version updates so that it's actually going to have some stuff.. Thing is that it's going to also have diagrams so I'm going to have to move some of the parts to AP so I can have the diagrams working in the post.. nothing big though
wavedash crunch: Yeah I just got sick of all the new posts being made.... I wish someone would make a FAQ to stop "Hi I'm new to this forum" threads :/
I just grabbed this dodge $95 ($45US) video tv tuner card and oh boy am I having problems with it.. it started capturing all cool and kak, but then it just died and no thinks that there is other software trying to access it. I've put in help tickets, so what ever responce I get I'll dump here incase other people get the same thing. Bah... and I was going to have some fun tonight with it
I've tried looking for an answer in all the lil questions you get...
But is there much of a difference between buying a video card or using a USB line to capture? Like... quality and what not.
Because I'd much rather shell out that much rather then 465 for a good card *cringe*. If the line is just as good as the card, then I'd much rather that. If however, a card is substantially better, are there any good cards for less then $200? I've searched around, but no squat about hardware
there isn't much difference, sometimes it's a 'you get what you paid for' situation, but for the most part, usually the biggest differences is the editing software it comes with, which doesn't matter
mainly the things you want to look for is compatibility with you, and what you want, for example,, if you want to capture with your RGA cables, or s-vid, or composite and what not..
Qualitywise, anything in the 50 bucks range area would get you decent enough quality.. you shouldn't have to worry too much
Well USB devices you have to deal with the actual data transfer rate or some kak like that, and the cheaper the unit is, the less res and frames per second it will do
Still no answer from those guys... better have one by this afternoon I'm itching for some testing
I can vouche for pinnacle's dc10+ card. It's a decent card for 80 bux(when I got it). it's a very good card for the price you are paying for. in the capture card field you pretty much get what you pay for. the more you cough up , the better the card. it also depends on what card you are getting. if you only plan on making mpgs/avi's for online use only there's really no use is going for the most expensive card on the market. since the top of the line cards are mainly for actual video editting/production environment's like for movies, commercial's, dvd's etc..
just so you can put in perspective the type of card I have. I made my yoshi combo video entirely on the dc10+. granted it's rather limiting. but it does it's job for the time being.
Ok I got the card finally working... the box kept on crashing (non video card problem), so I reinstalled another machine wand chucked the card in. Only problem I get now if that it seems to speed up parts of the capture.. I think that's just the software that came with the card. Going to try it with virtual dub and all that.
