I think the first match with her being played by a human is at 20:33. Some notes:

- 20:52, a mid-high left punch string, possibly d/f+1,1, looks like Heihachi's d/f+1,1
- 20:55, a front-flipping version of Hwo's WR+3, looks like it could be WR+3, leaves opp in PLD a good length away
- 20:58, low juggling sweep (looked like NH!), maybe d/b+4, pickup possible with d/f+1
- 21:00, 2-hit punch string, this triggers the new spin-B! animation, but it threw Lars to the wall here so it didn't extend the combo. The wall combo she did was the 2-hit from earlier that might be d/f+1,1, and if she has a barge-like move it would probably work as a final hit. She does have a flipkick, so maybe she could use that and get grounded damage if it connects.
- 21:01, standing left toe kick, maybe d+3, could be d/b+3
- 21:08, Acid...Hurricane? I'm guessing this is one of those combos that Namco said would be super easy since you can just press one button, so I'm going to assume this is f+3,3,3,3,3. I wonder if she could get this as a wall combo. Lili hits u/f+3 after this in a later match, so I'm guessing the last hit is at least -15.
- 21:17, a simple mid knee strike, could be either f+4 or d/f+4
- 21:18, two lunging mid punches, looks like Miguel d/f+1,2
- 21:22, jumping tsunami kicks that are part of a longer combo, could be u/f+4,4 or u+4,4, breaks floor, works as a B! launcher like Lee's WR+3,4 in TR
- 21:24, after landing, she does the mid left punch (maybe d/f+1), standing 1, punch string to give spin-B, (maybe) d/f+1,1 into a Mist Step or Dynamic Entry-like jump forward, then a low left kick. @21:43, she does the same string into a Mist Step lunging right knee, so it looks like she has a mixup out of her Mist Step
- 21:47, looks like Lee's HMS 2 from WS, so could be WS 2

I'll continue this tomorrow, I think. Pretty excited about playing her later.

Looks as if she plays like OG Baek with a dash of Lee and Miguel mixed in. I dig it.

If I manage to play this, she's a potential main, if by a twist of fate my mains from the last two games don't make it in.

So one thing I've noticed is that Katarina isn't particularly "masher-friendly" as she is "casual-friendly." By that, I mean that she's good in a game between two casual Tekken players rather than in a game where one person is mashing regardless of the opponent's skill. Her Acid Storm (I assume f+3,3,3,3,3) looks incredibly unsafe, and I'm guessing her u/f+4,4 is pretty bad on block, although you can finish the string.

My guess is that this whole "newb-friendly" thing is just puffery, and she'll be played like any other character in high-level play. The only difference is that stuff happens from just hitting one button. It's not particularly effective stuff, though, or at least that's how it appears.

I have my doubts against high level play. I could be wrong, but my PoV is this:


She looks incredibly unsafe, you're right. Which is a problem in high level play. I mean don't get me wrong-now and then you get those 'low-tier heroes' that end up picking like some incredibly unsafe and not-so-great character and kicking ass because they're damn good players, but I suspect that the player in question is going to have to invent some crazy crap with her to actually pull it off. One string(I dunno if it was the 3333333 or the 4444444) was being broken by plenty of attacks after a couple of hits. I think they both were in fact. (And yeah, I noticed some stuff that left her a sitting duck on block.)

I mean watching the loc tests there were some widely varying skill levels I saw, so it was hard to tell anything but that Katarina looks very very unsafe. I mean, I guess in a more serious bout, forgo the unsafe strings and do even more pokes than normal and just try to whittle the opponent down and make sure your defense is rock solid(Note: Pokes, punishment and a rock solid defense are order of the day of course, never leave home without them ever, but I think with her it'll be like, even more crucial than most if it's possible). Thing is, they have to balance her with the super-easy stuff in mind; which means highly unsafe, likely keeping damage fairly average(she did okay on a few hits-she had a couple punch combos that did nice damage but they also looked a LITTLE more involved and slower than her mashy kick stuff), and so on, which might-again, reading tea leaves here-make her a kinda hallenging character to use in tournament(ironic given her ease of execution.) Which may be the idea behind her at a high level-she's so unsafe and not too hot in a pro environment the person really has to get creative.

Also- I think 'masher friendly' comes into play because I think people just know she's going to show up online, in droves, in the hands of mashers.

Now she might have some hidden depths-but in Harada's own words she IS the beginner/casual type character; like the equivalent of, say, picking Very Easy in a spectacle brawler where aiming is automatic. The big difference there is your opponent may not be soft and easy like the opposition is on a Very Easy level of a game.

That being said, I did figure that she was made exactly for that-like, say, some casual gaming friends are having a party and they pull out Tekken and have fun with it.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned this yet, but I'm pretty sure her stance and backdash animations are the exact same (or incredibly similar) as Angel's from Tag 2.

Those masher strings could have 50/50s... So she be like another hwo minus learning to transition the stances ... That's scary

Honestly it looked to me like the Bryan made a mistake where they dropped the block for some reason(maybe in an attempt to punish)-but all of those hits looked at best mid, and Bryan never ducked or attempted to block low(which would have eaten the mid proper.)

I could be wrong of course and that hit right before the last two that hit him was just a REALLY high low(it looked like it hit at his waist.) I replayed that part a few times to see where there was something different and I really didn't see anything. It looked less like a 50/50 and more just like the Bryan player for some reason dropping the block at a bad time. Again, I could be wrong there.

It's of course hard to tell so far. She's new(as is Claudio), we only have incomplete loc tests to go by and it's anyone's guess if a 50/50 now will even stick as one later(balance passes and all), or even what they look like if someone has them(I mean I couldn't tell you any that, for example, Claudio has.) I tried watching a couple more times and I'm not seeing where the 50/50 happens(and I saw the string a few times.) She seems to be doing the same moves in that string, or at least close to it, and mostly high or mid that I saw.
