It only can be happened when your rank is lower than 1st dan. From beginner to 1st kyu, even you lose many matches, you'll still be promoted to a higher rank. But after you have 1st dan, you won't be promated to a higher rank if you lose a match. So the rules in the first post only work correctly after you get the 1st dan.

Ok that makes sense. But how do you explain the system of points when you fight several ranks who are more than 4 ranks higher than you and suddenly you can get a promotion as well?

e.g. : You are 2nd dan and you fight : Master-Warlord-Champion-Deity and then suddenly you get a promotion eventhough you haven't earned any points because all ranks were much higher than you

Sorry, I have never seen anything like that happened in the arcade I go. So I really can't explain why, but If anything that in the post isn't correct, please let me know and we can fix it.

Well it's on the console, so perhaps it is different?

Hey guys

I got a question about the ranking system. I have a 3rd dan Devil Jin and today I beat a Master Nina a few times a 2nd dan Law a few times and a 4th dan Paul one or two times and I didnt get a promotion chance.

Can I get a call on whether I get experience points for beating a Master Ranked player?????

And I should get a promotion chance very soon right??????

Sorry that I cannot give you the full explanation but I think the ranking system needs work on Zaibatsu. Well, only a little of course. I think Master is too high for a 3rd dan to get points. Try playing someone of own rank, that's the best. Also, if you lose once then win, your points stay the same I think.

The ranking system somewhat goes like this, you get the max amount of points when you face an oppenent with the same rank as you, less points as the ranking spreads, 3 ranks or more apart and you will NOT receive any points, so if ur a master and you beat a tekken lord, you wont receive any points toward your promotion,

Beat your own ranked opponent 6 times in a row and you'll get promoted, as the ranking spreads it takes more wins to get your promo, thats as simple as i can explain it GL gettin promoted

Conquerer
Diety
Tekken Lord

...and this is how it works as compiled by WhiteDragon:

The basic points for each rank = 3 points.
If you fight someone who has the same rank as you, you get +1 for winning this match and -1 for losing this match.
If you fight someone who has one level lower or higher rank than you, you get +0.75 for winning this match and -0.75 for losing this match.
If you fight someone who has two levels lower/higher rank than you, you get +0.5 for winning this match and -0.5 for losing this match.
If you fight someone who has three levels lower/higher rank than you, you get +0.25 for winning this match and -0.25 for losing this match.
If you fight someone who has four or more levels lower/higher rank than you, you get 0 for winning/losing this match.

for example, if you are 4th dan now, after a match:
if your basic points =< 0 your'll be 3th dan.
if your basic points =>6 you'll be 5th dan.

In arcade, it is not possible to be promoted by the cpu past 1st Dan.
thank you!

The ranking system doesn't make sense.

I once played Paul (Sage) against Heihachi (Tekken Lord). Then I lost, and changed my character to Jin (Beginner). I lost several times, and then suddenly "Promotion Chance" appears - I lost the match, but was still promoted.

Yeah, I know you can't get demoted in those ranks, but... how the heck did Jin earn points? By losing to a Tekken Lord?

I know it doesn't make any sense, especially not with the Kyu's. But just ignore the system and play on. *shrugs*

yeah the point system is wierd, but i Know you wont get demoted till you reached 2nd dan. when you're in the kyu's you'll get promoted even if you lose all the time. eventually it'll just promote you after you lost enough. after that, you're at demotion risk from 2nd dan-tekken lord.

I just really havent figured out the point system completly either.

Ok, so there basically is aggreement on the fact that the ranking system is right but with some exceptions.

I would like to point out (especially to WhiteDragon) one or two things that happened to me, always referred to a PS2 version:

1-I have a Tekken Lord Mokujin and I lost a match, so I went back to Deity, but had to regain my Tekken Lord status I had to win 16 battles in a row!!! obviously I tried to play always against other Deities, even if that did'nt always happened. So: is it possible that in highest ranks you always lose more points than those you win? Is it possible that a win against a certain status earns you 0.5 point but a loss makes you lose 1.5 (just examples)?

2-I just have the feeling that in from Shihan on (or so) it becomes harder and harder to earn points...I remember I was playing with Law and consistently getting a promotion chance every 4 battles, then getting it every 6 after being around the Shihan status...and then, around Legend, even less often...and that was not due to me losing, since I just went with winnig streakes

3-why the hell did I never get a promotion chance in VS? I always play with different chars, but once I sat down and tried to achieve status by playing Beginner vs Beginner and never ever a promotion chance did pop up even if went 7-0 (7 wins, 0 losses)...is there actually a reason?

Promotions are only possible in "Arcade Mode" against the computer.

In console, Versus mode will do nothing for your characters. Adds no points, no changes. The rank there is purely cosmetic, sadly.

I think the reason Versus Mode doesn't promote in console is that people may be tempted to cheap and allow certain characters to easily get promoted. Too bad they couldn't set up a sort of a card type system for console.
