I am now officially scared to post in the Xiao forums now. The dark ages of Xiao forums have begun. *waits for JMS to delete this topic, open his own with the same information and claim he did it*
Until that happens. I have talked to a couple people I know and it appears that this information is not new player friendly enough. I have taken screenshots of all of Xiaoyu's punishible moves to see if maybe they just need visuals, but I am still not sure how to present it (I have no way to capture video). I sure do not want it to become over informative and make new players just not bother anymore (YMR effect). Any ideas on how this information could be more understandable?
I feel the only convenient way for us to provide this information for them is to just provide a legend to read the data, then it's up to them to learn these moves for each character. The game already hands notation on a silver platter to new players by making it obvious with the lp, rp, lk, rk button setup that you can simply guess the input by watching the moves. Although it would be very helpful for us to create a gif of each image, that's extremely time consuming to capture each move, variation, and edit them into .gif files.
I'm considering creating a combo video/ wall combo breakdown thread in the alisa forums asking the alisa players to help create videos. Maybe we can do the same for ling? The video thread is an unorganized mess. We need to clean up so that we start compiling the good videos into the first post.
Actually, I've had some videos dealing with punishment for Xiaoyu on my alt. Youtube account... Just for that purpose (recognizing moves). I guess I could post it up here...
This is mostly stuff that I know from my experience + some things taken from Pixel's punishment guide. So it's not always going to show "every" punishable attack, or sometimes not even the best punishment option for the situation. But it gives people a good idea of what they can do.... I just never bothered posting it since Pixel already has his guide, and I only have videos for about 5 characters...
There's a guy who does that in Japan for Yoshimitsu. He's extremely thorough. I think each video's 8 minutes long and he even shows what can be escaped with yoshi's spin.
Speaking of things like that, it would be cool to see someone make a vid showing where you can evade and punish using AoP (that you can't normally evade by SS, duck, etc). It could probably be compiled into one long video for maybe 9 or 10 characters each since there probably aren't that many strings that you can AoP out of without having to duck first anyway.... but maybe SS AoP might add to that list?
I am on another mission and that is to compile a list of all of the characters and which direction they are to be sidestepped. I am not the sidestep king, so I am more open to corrections and additions from the Xiao community. So, you may help if you like.
I'm posting this info as in Xiaoyu doing the Side Stepping. So SSR = Xiaoyu SS'ing toward her right (or her opponent's left). I'm guessing this is how you are describing this too, since I saw SSL for Asuka, SSR for Jin, etc...
Heihachi : Side Walk Left pretty much evades everything. I Don't even think he has a move that would discourage you from Side Stepping Left either.
Bryan : SWR and SSR AoP
Lee Chaolan : SSR/SWR is actually the best option because most of Lee's attacks are weak toward that.... But you might want to still use SSL/SWL too since Lee's f+2, 1 catches SSR and SSR AoP. Not to mention f+2,1 is pretty much an easy option for him to stop AoP in general.
Raven : I saw you put SSL? Not familiar with Raven (since I haven't played many), but I've Side Walked Right so far that I've ended up facing his back. Maybe his tracking is just as bad against Xiao's SSL as it is SSR? I never tried SSL since SSR seemed to work pretty well, plus I had the option for SSR AoP.
