I recently got a chance to speak with YOU (Deep Theater) from the KYSG camp and he agreed to do a interview via submitted questions. Here are the questions he answered.

Enjoy.

sithlord: How did you get your start with combo videos? Who inspired you then and what keeps driving you to release combo vids today?

Deep Theater: My first combo video is Tekken Tag's.
I published in the website "Tekken Concrete"
(in the early days of the web)
Only publishing something is fresh for me.

After that,
I met Japanese Combo Creaters.(538(KYSG), Morimoto, Suguru...etc)
Their knowledge and ideas were amazing.
They and their movie inspired me.

Now, combo creators in the world try to improve by learning from others, and publish awesome ones.
This drive me to create new.
(If it's only me, I'll stop)

sithlord: How do you feel about current combo video creators?

Deep Theater: Creators all around the world do "energetically".
Vigorous activity to create great videos today.
(Japanese' seem a bit down...)

sithlord: KYSG is known for performing the impossible and their videos are widely popular. However, some viewers have a problem with the use of programmable sticks.
How do you feel about the occasional backlash from using P-Sticks when making your vids?

Deep Theater: AAMOF, I'm less concerned with it. Making combo video has two sides:
  • One is showing his technical skills.
  • The other is presentation of research.

From first side, P-Stick is hateful.(So, the opinion is acceptable)
From second side, P-Stick is only supported tool for research.

Besides, after Tekken 5 & 6,
"Idea" is more important than "Skill", I think.

sithlord: What are your thoughts on Street Fighter X Tekken by Capcom and Tekken X Street Fighter by Namco?

Deep Theater: Increasing Users are Good. Interacting with each game's users will make fresh idea.

About me, I will play Tekken X Street Fighter by Namco.

sithlord: Which has been your favorite Tekken so far?

Deep Theater: My favorite Tekken is Tekken Tag.
Transitional stage in the development of game (not only game I think) is the most exciting.

sithlord: You've inspired many combo video creators (myself included) and players alike. Any tips or advice to the up-and-coming combo video exhibitionists??

Deep Theater: Let's publish something, It's the first step.

sithlord: During the days of Tekken 5, Tekken Zaibatsu was planning the Tekken Zaibatsu Community Project Act.2, which you received an invitation.
Even though you didn't get the message til after the video was released,
would you have contributed if you had received the message?

Deep Theater: Sorry, I forgotted my receive.
If there is a next time, I want to join it.

sithlord: What would you like to see in Tekken 7? Any characters removed or brought back from the dead?

Deep Theater: Hmm, I think Tekken 6 is perfected as game.
If be, new combo system please. (like Tekken Tag's low hit when face down.)
(of course,Too Many Desires for NINA. )

please reduce characters as Game Player.(too hard to remember)
but, DON'T REMOVE NINA!!!!

sithlord: Any surprises from Project KYSG in the near future?

Deep Theater: As of now , sorry to say, there's no surprise(about T6)
but, I keep publishing small video (as "neta").

sithlord: In your opinion, what makes a good combo for a combo video?

Deep Theater: When I make, I mind these:
[about Combo]
I said again & again,
What's new is most important.
...and if combined 2 new Ideas, make it wonderful.
Knowing GameSystem deeply put out new idea.

[about Editting]
don't use some similar combos in one movie.
too long prelude is boring.(if it's PV, OK)

sithlord: Are there any other games besides Tekken you may release combo videos for in the future?

Deep Theater: I have no plan to make movie for other games.
IF there's new release of "SPIKEOUT" from SEGA, I'll make.

Thanks for answering the questions YOU. I appreciate it.

This is the first of several interviews I have planned. I have a lot of different ideas on how go about doing them.

Awesome interview.

Would have been crazy cool if DT would have TZCP Act II.

Thanks man. I hope to get a few more done soon. I have my next interview lined up already. I haven't decided how long to wait between each one yet.

I'll think of something.

You're welcome sith , sounds awesome, one thing I might suggest if I may is to look at the release dates of top player interviews in the news section, and use that as a time table for releases (if those interview dates are at a consistant level).

Maybe if someone came up with a new TZ community act (not me this time) Deep Theater would join it :O.

Excellent interview, and great idea to interview more combo legends Sithlord.

If the community were interested in another community act I wouldnt mind helping out or running the project since i didnt participate in the last one.. Now that the summer is over i have a lot more free time to get back into this.

Thanks man. I have more in mind but no one lined up just yet.

If you're interested in doing a community act, I suggest you start sending out PMs to respective parties (I can contact Deep Theater for you, if you like) and/or make a thread possibly in this forum or in T6 Gen and go from there.

Should the idea take flight, I have maybe 2 weeks worth of time to contribute. Although, I do have 1 combo already recorded (intended to be for a "clip collection" release) and several more I may do.

@ S.M.P. : that sounds like an awesome idea if you can get the people to contribute, I had the hardest time gathering people to do it, I made the first thread before console release.

As sith suggests PM people and get things sorted, although I wouldn't recommend the Gen section tbh, It didn't have much attention when looking for participants (only active whilst in production). i'd be more than happy to contribute,I do have alot of scattered gems about the place (how is perfect input anyhow?)

Back on topic:

@ sith: May I suggest to look at the classification of combo makers? And don't limit to recent combo makers and even look into combo editers, new-comers and classics (as you've successfully done recently )

thank you for the feedback guys. Im going to thoroughly think this thing through before I start sending PM's and what not. I think there's still a bit more to this game that the community can pull out another great combo act.
