This is Kenbou vs. some Anna player.
Every Wang player needs to watch this video. Kenbou pulls so much stuff out of his bag of tricks that his Wang truly lives up to the wizard costume he's wearing.
I didn't think it would be possible to get excited watching ANY Wang but Kenbou's style of play makes me rethink that.
Kenbou analysis based on this video and the various other ones on youtube:
Things he uses)
- FREQUENT (ab)use of CD mixup into WM / ws+1 / ws+2 / FC,d/f+4 / d+4. In fact he kind of uses Wang CD like Mishima players use theirs
- unblockable tech catch shenanigans
- well-timed b+2,1 ALOT
- occasional random deathfist more often than you'd expect
- 2,3&1,4 as punishers
- surprisingly sparse magic 4
- ws+1, 1,4 NC
- d+4 series out of crouchdash and generally as low poke of choice
- 4,4 as punisher into FC mixup
- ws+2>2>2 mixups more often than you'd expect
- d/b+3 to catch SSers
- SS+1+2 on techrollers
- f+4 after successful sidestep
- u/f+4 pretty frequently
- d+2>1+2 used in oki alot
- ...
Things he doesn't use)
- Absolutely no d+3,4 unless in combos (d+2,d+3,4) or rarely just d+3 as oki. I guess this move mostly sucks out in the open? I use d+3 with wang ALOT so I need to rethink my gameplay obviously
- Doesn't seem to use d/f+4 mid poke much? As one of the fastest Wang mids I'm confused as to why not. I guess ws+1 gives you better reward/risk?
- No f,f+2.
- No d+1+2 unless as a WM juggle starter.
- Very rarely uses f+1+2 in the open, or even in combos for that matter.
- I think I saw a f,f+4 used once or twice on sidestep attempt. Only landed once out of like 11-12 Kenbou Wang videos I've watched.
- d/f+2,1 ONLY after low parry
- ...
At the risk of making a stupid pun I'd have to say Kenbou's is quite an
explosive Wang.
